On Brea Hill with my mother and siblings in the 1960's
Never too young for a Guided Walk with your grandfather
"I believe every landscape has a memory, and every tide tells a new story."
For over a decade, I have lived and worked on the cliffs and sands of Polzeath, but my connection to this coast spans generations. My mother holidayed here in the 1930s, and today, I am dedicated to preserving and sharing the heritage, art, and "deep time" history of North Cornwall.
Before returning to my roots in New Polzeath, my career as a teacher and headteacher took me across the globe—from the bustling streets of Bangkok and the highlands of Kenya to the landscapes of Cambodia and Bangladesh.
This journey wasn't just about teaching; it was about learning how different cultures connect with their land and their history. I hold a degree in Psychology from Durham University, which informs my work today—whether I am exploring the Jungian symbolism of a beach mandala or leading a "Memory Jogger" legacy session for a local family.
I don’t just lead walks; I curate experiences. Drawing on my background as an original photographer for the British Library’s Geograph Project, I help visitors see the "hidden" Cornwall. From the mining shafts of Pentireglaze to the poetic haunts of Thomas Hardy and John Betjeman, my walks are designed to be both "entertaining and enlightening."
As a beach artist, the sand is my canvas and the tide is my clock. I specialise in large-scale geometric patterns and mandalas—featured in the award-winning documentary “We Are All Artists” by Simon Ratigan. My workshops are designed to help people "find their own line" and experience the meditative power of creating something beautiful that is shortly destined to be washed away.
I am proud to manage two of the region's most active digital communities: @PolzeathWalks and @BeachArtists. With a monthly reach that often exceeds 150,000 viewers, I use these platforms to champion local conservation, celebrate our history, and keep the "Polzeath Pilgrims" connected to the coast year-round.
When you book a session or a tour, you aren't just hiring a guide. Every booking helps fund my community festivals, the preservation of our local stories, and my advocacy for the protection of this unique coastline.
"I’d like to think that when you walk with me, you aren't just visiting Cornwall—you’re becoming part of its story."
